Is it possible to love your job too much? Neil Kalawsky, President and General Manager of Kalawsky Chevrolet Buick GMC, doesn’t think so. He has worked at least six days a week as a General Motors dealer for nearly 30 years. He bought his first dealership in Killam, Alberta, in 1978 before purchasing his current dealership in Castlegar, British Columbia, in 1989. He is just as excited about the car business today as he was when he joined the industry as a dealer accountant in 1965. “I can’t imagine doing anything else,” he says. “I love it.”
To Neil, buying a new car is a special experience. And for everyone at Kalawsky Chevrolet Buick GMC, the excitement of customers when picking up a new car or truck is infectious. “It never gets boring,” Neil says. There’s plenty more to get excited about, too. It’s a time of renewal at both GM and at Kalawsky Chevrolet Buick GMC. General Motors continues to roll out a large slate of exciting new vehicles, from the completely redesigned GMC Sierra 1500 to the Buick Enclave.
At Kalawsky Chevrolet Buick GMC, we’ve made several important additions to our management team as well. We recently updated our online showroom and we’ve upgraded our computer system to help us maintain and improve our customer service. There are many other changes to come at this family-owned and operated dealership.
Aside from managing the dealership, Neil belongs to the board of the Motor Dealer Council in BC, which regulates more than 1,700 dealers and 8,000 sales professionals to ensure that consumers are treated fairly and ethically. Neil recently finished his term as President of the board of the Canadian Automobile Dealers Association. Additionally, Kalawsky Chevrolet Buick GMC is deeply involved in the local community, partnering with such organizations as Communities in Bloom, the Castlegar & District Library, Selkirk College, Rotary and many others. “It is important to give back to the community you live in,” his wife Darlene says.
